ABDOMINOPLASTY IN PARIS: TUMMY TUCK

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure cosmetic surgery performed in Paris by Dr Djian. It is designed to remove excess skin below the navel. This excess skin is often present following significant weight loss or after pregnancies.

Theabdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a cosmetic or aesthetic surgery procedure corrective surgerydepending on the case.

It consists in correcting a sagging skin at stomach area and get a flat stomach by practising a tummy tuck. This operation is generally performed after significant weight loss (by dieting or surgery) or after pregnancies.

It consists of removing theexcess skin which is located below the navel, sometimes referred to as the "abdominal apron" . The surgeon can also remove grease in the hips by liposuction.

This excess skin cannot be corrected by diet, sport or liposuction. The latter would only aggravate the excess skin around theabdomen. The re-tensioning of the skin must be performed surgically.

WHO SHOULD UNDERGO ABDOMINOPLASTY?

The main indications for abdominoplasty are as follows:

The Body Mass Index (BMI) is an essential criterion for assessing eligibility for abdominoplasty.. An excessively high BMI can increase the risks of surgery and compromise results. Discover the ideal BMI before a tummy tuck.

Before any surgery, it is advisable toquit smoking at least 1 month in advance.

SURGICAL TECHNIQUE

Abdominoplasty consists of removing the belly skin below the umbilicus. It's a tummy tuck that removes the abdominal apron, from the front and in profile.

An incision is made above the pubis. This location allows the scar to be concealed in the underwear.

A pre-existing scar, such as a Caesarean section scar, can be reused.

The skin above the belly button is stretched downwards to create a flat stomach.

The navel is retained, but simply repositioned. A small scar will be created inside the navel.

IN PRACTICE

The first consultation

During the initial consultation, the surgeon takes a complete history of the patient.

Clinical examination of the abdominal wall allows you to precisely define the gestures to be performed during thesurgical operation. The surgeon tests the muscle wall to assess whether a diastasis cure (bringing the muscles together) is necessary.

The surgeon explains how the operation will be performed and assesses the possibility of a coverage by Social Security (see frequently asked questions).

An estimate is given to the patient.

The second consultation

During the second consultation, the patient validates the estimate.

The surgeon takes pre-operative photographs, from the front, from the back and from the front. profile and three-quarter. They will serve as a basis for comparison after the operation.

The patient is prescribed a basic biological check-up, as well as an anesthesia consultation.

The intervention

Abdominoplasty is always performed under general anesthesia.

Depending on the procedures to be performed (associated liposuction, abdominal diastasis cure), it can last between 1 and 2.5 hours.

Dr Jeremy Djian uses absorbable sutures.

A compression bandage is applied at the end of the procedure to limit the risk of hematoma.

Dr. Djian operates on all his patients himself.

After the operation

The patient can get up the day after the operation. The first dressing is applied after the patient gets up for the first time.

Doctor Jeremy Djian is present when the first bandage is made.

A compression garment is prescribed for 6 weeks.

Anticoagulants are prescribed for 2 weeks.

The sport activities and strenuous exercise are contraindicated for 2 months.

Final results are visible between 3 and 6 months post-operatively.

Your Questions

Frequently Asked Questions in Consultation

IS ABDOMINOPLASTY COVERED?

plus moins
L'ABDOMINOPLASTIE EST-ELLE PRISE EN CHARGE ?

Full abdominoplasty is managed according to strict criteria established by the Social Security.

The patient must present a "abdominal apron covering the pubis. This apron must have appeared as a result of :

  • Post-bariatric surgery;
  • Pregnancy;
  • After an operation (post-operative) ;
  • After a diet for severe obesity.

You can consult the criteria for reimbursement on the Sécurité Sociale website: AMELI.fr.

WHAT IS ABDOMINAL MINI-LIFTING?

plus moins

Abdominal mini-lifting involves re-draping the skin below the navel.

This procedure is preferred if the excess skin is small and mainly located below the navel.

Excess skin around the navel cannot be corrected with this technique.

TUMMY TUCK OR BODY LIFT?

plus moins

When, in addition to the abdominal apron, there is a sagging skin of the buttock with excess skin, it is possible to perform what is known as a circular dermolipectomy or body lift.
This procedure treats the entire abdominal belt.

This procedure takes longer than a conventional abdominoplasty. The recovery period is also longer.

WHAT IS A DIASTASIS CURE?

plus moins

A cure for diastasis is to bring together abdominal muscles (the rectus abdominis muscles).

This procedure is complementary. It is generally performed after pregnancies during which these muscles may have relaxed.

The plastic surgeon performs muscle testing in consultation to assess relaxation. He may prescribe a CT scan of the abdominal wall to accurately assess the gap between the muscles.

DOES ABDOMINOPLASTY TREAT STRETCH MARKS?

plus moins

Yes, but not totally.

Only stretch marks below the navel will be removed.

Stretch marks above the navel will be moved a little lower. In fact, it is the stretch marks present on the removed skin that will be removed.

WHERE ARE THE SCARS POSITIONED?

plus moins
OÙ SONT POSITIONNÉES LES CICATRICES ?

The tummy tuck scar is placed above the pubis. It is hidden by undergarments. The greater the excess skin, the lower the scar.

The navel is preserved. It is re-implanted in its original position. This placement requires the creation of a small, discreet scar inside the navel.

IS LIPOSUCTION PERFORMED?

plus moins

The liposuction allows you to process excess fat on the hips and stomach. It is performed before the tummy tuck. In fact, the excess fat must be removed first.

It is not systematic. If the patient has an excess of healthy skin, with no excess fat, it is absolutely unnecessary.

WHAT WILL THE SCAR LOOK LIKE?

plus moins

The abdominoplasty scar, although placed in the panties, is quite large.

It is impossible to know before surgery what the scar will look like.

The surgeon can, based on the patient's history, phototype and previous scars, assess the risk of producing a "bad" scar.

The UrgoTouch laser reduces the inflammatory healing process and thus improves the appearance of scarring. It is applied at the end of the procedure.

It is also advisable not to resume strenuous physical activity too quickly.

HOW LONG TO REST AFTER SURGERY?

plus moins

In the case of a covered abdominoplasty, 2 to 3 weeks off work may be prescribed.

However, even in the case of non-reimbursed cosmetic abdominoplasty, it is advisable to rest for at least 15 days.

A compression girdle should be worn for about 6 weeks.

In the event of an associated diastasis treatment, no weight-bearing should be performed for at least 1 month.
