Your Questions
Frequently Asked Questions in Consultation
IS ABDOMINOPLASTY COVERED?
Full abdominoplasty is managed according to strict criteria established by the Social Security.
The patient must present a "abdominal apron covering the pubis. This apron must have appeared as a result of :
- Post-bariatric surgery;
- Pregnancy;
- After an operation (post-operative) ;
- After a diet for severe obesity.
You can consult the criteria for reimbursement on the Sécurité Sociale website: AMELI.fr.
WHAT IS ABDOMINAL MINI-LIFTING?
Abdominal mini-lifting involves re-draping the skin below the navel.
This procedure is preferred if the excess skin is small and mainly located below the navel.
Excess skin around the navel cannot be corrected with this technique.
TUMMY TUCK OR BODY LIFT?
When, in addition to the abdominal apron, there is a sagging skin of the buttock with excess skin, it is possible to perform what is known as a circular dermolipectomy or body lift.
This procedure treats the entire abdominal belt.
This procedure takes longer than a conventional abdominoplasty. The recovery period is also longer.
WHAT IS A DIASTASIS CURE?
A cure for diastasis is to bring together abdominal muscles (the rectus abdominis muscles).
This procedure is complementary. It is generally performed after pregnancies during which these muscles may have relaxed.
The plastic surgeon performs muscle testing in consultation to assess relaxation. He may prescribe a CT scan of the abdominal wall to accurately assess the gap between the muscles.
DOES ABDOMINOPLASTY TREAT STRETCH MARKS?
Yes, but not totally.
Only stretch marks below the navel will be removed.
Stretch marks above the navel will be moved a little lower. In fact, it is the stretch marks present on the removed skin that will be removed.
WHERE ARE THE SCARS POSITIONED?
The tummy tuck scar is placed above the pubis. It is hidden by undergarments. The greater the excess skin, the lower the scar.
The navel is preserved. It is re-implanted in its original position. This placement requires the creation of a small, discreet scar inside the navel.
IS LIPOSUCTION PERFORMED?
The liposuction allows you to process excess fat on the hips and stomach. It is performed before the tummy tuck. In fact, the excess fat must be removed first.
It is not systematic. If the patient has an excess of healthy skin, with no excess fat, it is absolutely unnecessary.
WHAT WILL THE SCAR LOOK LIKE?
The abdominoplasty scar, although placed in the panties, is quite large.
It is impossible to know before surgery what the scar will look like.
The surgeon can, based on the patient's history, phototype and previous scars, assess the risk of producing a "bad" scar.
The UrgoTouch laser reduces the inflammatory healing process and thus improves the appearance of scarring. It is applied at the end of the procedure.
It is also advisable not to resume strenuous physical activity too quickly.
HOW LONG TO REST AFTER SURGERY?
In the case of a covered abdominoplasty, 2 to 3 weeks off work may be prescribed.
However, even in the case of non-reimbursed cosmetic abdominoplasty, it is advisable to rest for at least 15 days.
A compression girdle should be worn for about 6 weeks.
In the event of an associated diastasis treatment, no weight-bearing should be performed for at least 1 month.
